They Said It Best

A Letter from Kurt Mische, KNPB President & CEO —August 2010

Coming out of church on a recent Sunday, I was approached by a couple who asked, “Aren’t you from KNPB?” After exchanging pleasantries, they expressed their appreciation for “all the wonderful programs” on KNPB. They mentioned our Metropolitan Opera broadcasts, the Newshour, and of course, our Saturday night English comedies.

Recently a check to fund an important educational outreach program came with a letter that read in part, “We believe KNPB is doing important work in the communities you serve and we are proud that we are able to support you in your efforts.”

A KNPB corporate sponsor told us how customers come to his business, and in the course of conversation, thank him for sponsoring Antiques Roadshow because it’s “far more interesting than anything else on TV.” A couple standing on the tee next to me at a local golf course told me how they never miss Nightly Business Report and its in-depth reporting. And on it goes! Hardly a day goes by that we do not receive thoughtful, appreciative comments about the services and programs that your financial donations make possible.

Now national research agrees! For the seventh consecutive year, the non-partisan Roper/ASW poll of Americans ranks PBS #1 in public trust. That same survey reports that the majority of Americans think PBS is an “exceptional value” for their tax dollars and that we lead in addressing important issues.

Simply put, no other media company is more dedicated to our children, our democracy, and our culture than KNPB and PBS. We prepare thousands of children for success in school and in life, and encourage lifelong learning through the exploration of science, nature, and history, share multiple perspectives and invite you to experience the arts in ways that may not otherwise be possible.

I hope that you are proud of KNPB and all that it does to connect and enrich our community. It happens only because of your annual financial support. Whose life will be transformed by your next donation?
