JOB TITLE:  Assistant Chief Engineer

REPORTS TO:  Vice President of Technology 

DEPARTMENT:  Technology  




The Assistant Chief Engineer will assist the VP of Technology with overseeing the day to day operations of the Technology Department and is responsible for the maintenance of all broadcast technology and equipment at the studio, transmitter and remote sites.


  • Maintain all studio and transmitter equipment, including but not limited to: transmitters/receivers (TV, Microwave, satellite, etc.), cameras, switchers, graphic systems, audio equipment, routers, automation, editing systems, video servers, intercoms, LAN networks, monitor and display systems
  • Use working knowledge to maintain/repair all RF technical equipment in the TV studio and transmitter facilities, Studio to Transmitter Links and satellite uplinks/downlinks and microwave transmission systems
  • Responsible for providing timely response in resolving technical and operational issues including but not limited to off air situations, equipment and transmitter issues 24/7
  • Use working knowledge of PC's, networking, routers, switches, operating systems, SAN’s, archives, network security and Microsoft applications software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Access Database and PowerPoint
  • Use comprehensive knowledge of basic electronic theory for troubleshooting to the system and boards to the component level where applicable
  • Provide technical support to operational users
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)​:

  • Understanding of TV broadcast systems, workflows and distribution
  • Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft OS, office suite; IT & Network skills on broadcast related, IP based equipment and applications
  • Ability to work on both IP based broadcast equipment and legacy broadcast equipment
  • Associate Degree in Electronics, Communications, or equivalent combination of education/work-related/military experience preferred
  • Minimum five years' experience in a television broadcasting environment
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational skills, and willingness to assist others
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize assignments
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of the position
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work extended hours, as needed i.e. weekend, evening and holidays
  • Available for emergency response 24/7, as needed
  • Act as responder for station disaster recovery
  • Have valid state driver’s license. Acceptable driving record. Background check is required
  • Have the right to work in the United States.
