2019 KNPB PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST AWARDS
KNPB PBS KIDS WRITERS CONTEST AWARDS
(Reno, NV) –– KNPB will celebrate the winners of the 2019 KNPB PBS KIDS Writers Contest Wednesday, June 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Contest winners were selected from 2634 northern Nevada elementary school and homeschool students who submitted stories and illustrations on the prompt, “Imagine.”
Winning stories will be featured in the airport throughout summer. Each of the 12 winners will receive a hardbound copy of his or her book, among other honors, during the Wednesday evening event.
“This year’s contest once again had a record number of entries—2634—and we had our first-ever winners from Elko and Minden, a home-school winner and a parochial school winner,” said Kurt Mische, KNPB President and CEO. “This demonstrates the excitement generated by this contest and its reach to students and parents all throughout our region.”
The winners taped an intro to their book which will air throughout the summer on the KNPB, KNPB PBS KIDS, and KNPB Create channels. Each winning story was selected based on creativity and originality, story structure and use of literary devices, relevance, quality, and originality of illustration. The top three stories from students in kindergarten through third grade were selected for top honors.
“We are proud of the original talent of our young writers,” said Nancy Maldonado, KNPB Vice President of Education. “I love that KNPB offers an opportunity for the students to creatively express themselves through their writing every year!”
The Reno-Tahoe International Airport will provide food and beverages for all family and friends in attendance at the June 5 event. For more information, visit www.knpb.org or follow KNPB on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
