Beth Macmillan, Artown Executive Director, Receives Business Excellence Recognition

Reno, NV:  The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada presented Beth Macmillan, Executive Director of Artown, with a commemorative coin at the recent Arts, Culture and Business Development luncheon.  This award recognizes and thanks those that actively participate in our economic development efforts.  EDAWN states, “They appreciate all that Beth does for our entire community and believes she goes above and beyond in serving not only the arts community, but our entire region.  The coin is presented in recognition of exceptional leadership, engagement, and/or cooperation in support of Reno-Sparks regional economic development efforts!”

Macmillan joined Artown as Festival Manager in February 2001 and was promoted to Executive Director in November of 2003. As Executive Director she has produced Artown events, created “out of the box” approaches and strategic partnerships to presentations, co-presentations and future Artown commissions.

Currently she is the host of ArtEffects a KNPB weekly television series.  ArtEffects delves into the local arts scene and encompasses art features from across the nation. A play on the word "artifact" that emphasizes the positive, curious, intended and unintended [effects] the arts have in our daily environments, region and world, and also the long term and lasting impact the arts leave behind [artifact] in helping define and describe our culture, community, nation and world.

Most recently, she served as President of the Western Arts Alliance a membership association of touring and performing arts professionals engaged in promoting and presenting performing arts throughout the western states and provinces. Serving members since 1967, WAA's annual booking conference and its year-round programs are essential for artists, artist managers, presenters, and other performing arts professionals in the west. More than 680 artists, managers, presenters, arts service organizations, and state arts agencies know WAA as a trusted and vital resource.
