The station hopes to increase involvement for the 2018-2019 school year
Reno, Nev. -- KNPB Education Services, part of KNPB Public Broadcasting, served nearly 44,000 students throughout Washoe, Douglas, Lyon and Elko counties as well as Carson City with one or more interactive, educational programs during the 2017-2018 school year.
“We are incredibly proud of our accomplishments in serving students this last school year,” says Nancy Maldonado, Vice President of Education at KNPB. “We hope to get in even more schools and meet with more children this year, so we can continue our mission of helping kids develop a lifelong love of learning.”
KNPB Education Services provides free workshops for young children, parents, caregivers and educators, in elementary schools, preschool locations and community organizations, such as Head Start and the Reno Housing Authority. Since 2014, KNPB Education Services has seen an annual increase in the total number of students served throughout northern Nevada and northeastern California.
During the 2017-2018 school year, KNPB Education Services:
Gave away 16,352 books to children
Prepared 50 classes and 1,130 students to participate in the Martha Speaks Reading Buddies program
Received 1,700 entries in the 2018 PBS KIDS Writers Contest
Facilitated a grand total of 43,799 student interactions
“I think the increase in engagement with KNPB Education Services content shows just how valuable these programs are to our community,” says KNPB President and CEO Kurt Mische. “Helping students find more success in the classroom is part of our mission and will continue to be a major focus for the station moving forward.”
As schools in our communities are getting back into session, KNPB Education Services is already scheduling visits and workshops in schools. For more information or to schedule a workshop, contact Nancy Maldonado, Vice President of Education at firstname.lastname@example.org.
