Locate the
Pyrenees on a world map. Show students where French Basque and
Spanish Basque reside in Europe. Discuss ways the Basque may have
emigrated to America. Ask if any of the students have driven by
or visited a Basque restaurant in the Reno area. Review how specific
foods contribute to a group's culture. Ask the students if the
know what kind(s) of food Basque restaurants serve.
To
give students a specific responsibility while viewing, ask them
to see if they can hear what reasons are given for Basque immigrants
coming to America. Ask students to raise their hands when they
hear one.
Distribute
the sample menu from a Basque restaurant. Attachment 2. In groups,
have the students make a business plan to open an operate a
Basque Hotel-Restaurant of their own. (they can utilize the
building designed earlier in the lesson.)
