PBS KIDS for Parents and KNPB equip families with the knowledge and skills to support child development and to empower children for learning success. As part of the KNPB Family Engagement service, we offer Family engagement workshops specifically developed for preschool children (ages 3-5 years old) and their parents.

The first five years of a child’s life are instrumental to social, emotional, and cognitive development now and in the future.  Parents play a primary role in a child’s early learning process; they are a child’s first teacher and the first to influence success with learning since 90% of each child’s brain development occurs before age 5.

Family Engagement
Family Engagement Workshops consist of the following:

Literacy Comes Alive!

In this exciting workshop, we show parents how to take any book and “make it come alive”. Parents and their children listen to a read aloud book, watch a short video clip and then do several hands-on activities at centers all based on the book. The activities include cooking, math skills, literacy skills, color recognition and more.

Family Engagement

Ready for School, Ready for Fun!

In this informative workshop we show parents how to make inexpensive, “educational” activities they can do at home with their children. Using PBS KIDS for Parents, we share great resources on child development, age-appropriate practices, and other valuable tools.

Family Engagement

Financial Literacy

An engaging video, a read aloud, and fun hands-on activities are integrated into the financial literacy workshops. Lessons include identifying coins, their attributes, and their values. Children will explore the concept of saving, spending, and donating money.
