How To
Make the Most of "The Family Storyteller" Videos In Workshop
Settings:
- Introduce the book.
Be sure to identify the title, the author/s, and the illustrator/s.
- Introduce the video.
"The
Family Storyteller" videos are formatted into three segments so that
you can pause to encourage active viewing and interaction.
Segment
I
Introduces specific skills demonstrated by the reader on the video.
Pause at the end of this segment to review skills and ask whether there
are comments or questions about them.
Segment
2
A family reads a favorite book together.
Pause at the end of the reading. Ask workshop participants for their observations
about the reader's style and the children's reactions to it.
Segment
3
Reviews the skills as demonstrated within the reading.
Reinforce the skills through discussion. Rewind the tape, if appropriate,
to emphasize a certain skill, clarify techniques, or answer questions.
If there is time, it might be good to rewind the tape and play through
it again without interruption.
Connect
the video experience with the extension activities to follow.
