The Heritage Society & The Bristlecone Pine

The Bristlecone PineThe Bristlecone Pine is an apt symbol of The Heritage Society. Stoic pillars that inhabit the Sierras and surrounding environs, the longevity of these trees — surviving 40 centuries and beyond — speaks of endurance and adaptability.

Channel 5 has occupied the northern Nevada landscape for a mere two decades. Unlike the Bristlecone Pine, the elements shaping it were not wind and sun, drought and rain; they were knowledge and the desire to share it, technology and the creativity to use it.

The Heritage Society is a collection of individuals whose contributions work in perpetuity to fund the ideals of Channel 5 — men and women who advocate the intelligent and compassionate use of public media for generations to come.

"Found on the high, barren wind-swept slopes of Nevada — twisted and gnarled veterans that have been sculptured by time, weather, and the elements… The key to their great age and beauty partially lies in the ability of the species to adjust to the adverse and continually environmental conditions."
