Using the egg carton, pipe cleaners, markers, etc... use your imagination to create new insects (6 legs) and spiders (8 legs). Be sure to label your newly created bug and describe where it lives, what it likes to eat, and give it a name.

Step 1: Use the egg carton as the base of your spider or insect.
Step 2: You can use the pipe cleaners as legs for your creation. Use your imagination as you use the other materials such as pens, paper, glitter, beads, paint and/or whaterver you have around the house to create your very own spider or insect.
Step 3: Be sure to give your creation a name and tell us where it lives and what it eats.

Connecting the activity with the program:
Buster visits Madison, Wisconsin in this episode of Postcards from Buster, where he meets the Vang family. The Vang’s are a Hmong family who take family very seriously. Buster learns about the culture and experiences Hmong cuisine while at a family barbecue. Mixed within all of this adventure Buster dreams of a large hairy spider. Buster visits an entomology lab to learn more about the species. While at the lab Buster is introduced to a tobacco-horned worm and a Chilean rose-hair tarantula. Buster begins to realize that spiders and insects are actually less intimidating and more helpful than he thought. |
