Winnemucca: This longtime
crossroads for early travelers known as French Ford, was organized by
the Central Pacific in 1868 and renamed at the same time. It became
even more important as a railroad town when the Western Pacific came
through in 1907. George Nixon, founder of the First National Bank of
Winnemucca, met George Wingfield there and formed a lasting and lucrative
partnership. Winnemucca is the seat of Humboldt County.
