Along the way they have the chance to head into the desert and visit the community Goodsprings and the legendary Pioneer Saloon. Not far from Primm, Chris and Dave go landsailing on the Ivanpah dry lakebed with Corey Jensen of Windpower Sports. After a night in Laughlin, Chris and Dave grab paddles and kayaks and set out to do some river kayaking on the Colorado River. The trip concludes back on dry land with a tour of the Colorado River Museum. 202: Ghost Towns and Craters This trip follows hosts Dave and Chris as they explore the region east of Tonopah. On the first day, they are joined by Shawn Hall, the author of a number of books on the ghost towns of Nevada. The trio takes a look at the remains of the communities of Warms Springs, Tybo and Hot Creek. Then, Dave and Chris set out for the second day of their adventure. This time, they meet Richard Orndorff, a geomorphologist, and Gene Smith, a volcanologist, at the Lunar Crater Volcanic Field. The field, which covers over 100 square miles, contains cinder cones, lava flows and craters. 203: Southern Sand Dunes This trip begins with hosts Chris and Dave meeting Dennis Freeman of ATV Adventures for a bit of riding on the Logandale Trail System. Next, Chris and Dave drive north to Interstate 15 to the Las Vegas Dunes Recreation Area where they meet Gary and Sallie Clinard of the Dunes and Trails ATV Club. This time, they climb onto Banshees for all sorts of sandy fun. After a night’s rest in Las Vegas, they head about 100 miles outside Las Vegas to visit the Big Dune with Nick Lancaster of the Desert Research Institute. The trio has the opportunity to climb the 300-foot “singing dune.” 204: Tahoe Rim Trail On this adventure, hosts Chris and Dave go on a two-day hike and campout on the Tahoe Meadows to Spooner Summit segment of the Tahoe Rim Trail. Mark Kimbrough, the Executive Director of the Tahoe Rim Trail Association, and Jay Howard, a resource ranger with Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, guide them on this trip. It is a visually stunning excursion full of breath-taking views of Lake Tahoe and Marlette Lake. The hikers cover the 23 miles of trail, visiting Christopher’s Loop, Marlette Peak and Snow Valley Peak along the way. 205: Winnemucca to Denio Rich Moreno, the publisher of Nevada Magazine, joins hosts Chris and Dave for a trip in the northern part of the Silver State. The trio sets out from the town of Winnemucca and drives north to visit Paradise Valley, a historic and scenic community. Next, they head to the Santa Rosa Range and Singus Creek for some high-country hiking. The trio overnights in Denio Junction before continuing on to the Virgin Valley and the Rainbow Ridge Opal Mine where go hunting for black fire opals. After a stop at photographer Linda Dufurrena’s gallery in the Quinn River Valley, the trio finishes the trip with a geocaching expedition in the former mining camp of Daveytown. 206: Eastern State Parks Hosts Dave and Chris begin this trip at Echo Canyon State Park where they meet Barbara Rhode from the Nevada Division of State Parks. The three go for a scenic 7-mile bike ride along Echo Road to the nearby Spring Valley State Park. Along the way, they tour the gorgeous Rose Valley and an area landmark called the Pioneer Wall. After pedaling through the small community of Ursine, also known as Eagle Valley, they meet Andrew Porter in Spring Valley State Park. After a tour of the park and a lesson in its history, Dave and Chris head to Caliente. The second day of the trip includes a tour of Caliente with Steve Culverwell, a descendant of the town’s founders. The trip ends with a visit to Kershaw-Ryan State Park where ranger Shaylen Budreau shows them the park’s lovely gardens and nature trails. 207: Tonopah to Silver Peak Alvin McLane, a retired archeologist and an experienced hiker joins hosts Dave and Chris on this trip in Nevada’s Esmeralda County. They set out from the town of Tonopah, heading for the canyons at Clayton Ridge. They spend the day hiking the lovely and rugged desert terrain, making their way through slot canyons, overgrown desert vegetation and rock falls. On the second day of the trip, the trio drives west to the Esmeralda Badlands, in the foothills of the Monte Cristo Range. The trip concludes with a tour of the community of Silverpeak with ghost town expert Shawn Hall, curator and manager of the Tonopah Historic Mining Park. 208: Tahoe to Dayton This trip takes hosts Chris and Dave from South Lake Tahoe to the historic mining communities of Dayton and Gold Hill. The adventure begins at the mouth of Eagle Creek Canyon where they meet Dave Schuller, the owner of Rocksport Indoor Climbing Center. He helps guide them through some top-rope ascents on a popular climbing slab called the 90 Foot Wall. Dave and Chris then head to Sand Harbor for some lake kayaking with Walt Washington of Great Basin Sports. On the second day of the trip, Dave and Chris make the quick drive from Carson City to the Dayton Historic Society Museum for a walking tour with Stoney Tennant, a 40-year resident of Dayton. Then, in Silver City they meet Rich Moreno, the publisher of Nevada Magazine, who leads them on a tour of Silver City and Gold Hill. 209: High Rock Canyon On this adventure, hosts Chris and Dave join retired archeologist and avid Nevada explorer Alvin McLane for a trek through High Rock Canyon. The canyon area is located northwest of Gerlach and the Black Rock Desert. During the trip, the trio has the chance to follow a portion of the Lassen-Applegate Trail, explore some breath-taking Nevada scenery, camp in the Yellow Hills, view petroglyphs, visit some Basque "stone-boys" and see a petrified forest that represents several million years of Nevada history. 210: White Pine Mining District On this trip, hosts Chris and Dave accompany Fred Frampton and Tom Flanagan of the U.S. Forest Service on a tour of the ghost towns of the White Pine Mining District. The first stop on the trip is at Hamilton, where the group has the chance to explore the remains of the settlement and the nearby historic cemetery. Then, they head up into the mountains to visit Treasure City, a mining town that was once known for its rich silver and its harsh winters. The journey continues with a stop at the Eberhardt townsite as well as the Metropolitan Mill. Then after exploring the remains of Shermantown, the group concludes their trip at the Belmont Mill. 211: The Right Tuff This trip takes hosts Chris and Dave on a geologic field trip in the Spanish Springs and Red Rock area with Jonathan Price and DD LaPointe of the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. The adventure begins with a stop at the Miocene Fossil Lake Beds where they have the chance to hunt for million year old plant fossils. Then, it is on to Winnemucca Ranch Road and an area of striking geology known as the “Moon Rocks.” The group drives to Red Rock Canyon to hike into the canyon and take a closer look at the volcanic tuff that lends the canyon its name. The trip concludes with a stop at Petersen Mountain to hunt for quartz crystals. 212: Boulder City Adventure On this trip, hosts Chris and Dave explore and sample some of the recreational opportunities that abound in and around the Boulder City area in southern Nevada. The first adventure of the trip is mountain biking with Jeff Spriggs of Bike Stuff on some of the 36 miles of trail in Bootleg Canyon. Then, they trade in bike helmets for hiking shoes and head out to explore the U.S. Government Construction Railroad Trail with guide Julian Rhinehart. On the second day, Chris and Dave get an aerial view of the desert community by doing some sky diving with the jumpmasters of Sky Dive Las Vegas. The trip concludes back on the ground with a tour of in Boulder City with historian Dennis McBride. 213: Best of Wild Nevada III In this "Best of" special, hosts Chris and Dave revisit their favorite adventures of previous shows. Among the memories is a trip to southern Nevada near Primm where they discover the joy and frustrations of landsailing. There is also an ATV adventure on the Logandale Trails System, just outside the Valley of Fire State Park, which offer hours of great scenics and fun rides. The special also reprises a hike through the dramatic landscape of the Esmeralda Badlands, a place filled with twisted spires and great views.
