“Somewhere
in Belgium”
Nov 28th 1918.
Dear Folks;
Today is Thanksgiving Day and we are still here in Belgium. We did
not have any turkey dinner but it was better than usual. It has
rained all day, I think we are lucky we did not have to drill.
Have received about six letters from you since I wrote last. Glad
to hear that mother recovered from the influenza so quick. A number
of the boys of this company have received letters from home stating
that some of their family are sick with the Spanish influenza.
Charlie ought to feel proud to think that he is so popular in the
community. I did not receive the returns of the election, just Florence’s
letter.
You would not ask us to write so many letters if you knew where
we have to write some of them. I happen to be in a cow barn at present,
on the floor with my head up in a stall writing on my blanket.
Our Capt. told us the other evening that they intended to cut down
the overseas force to thirty divisions. I don’t think there
is a chance to start home before the last of t Dec. or first of
Jan. Have heard all kinds of rumors about going home but just rumors.
I think we are going back to France very shortly.
If the card did not reach you in time for the Xmas box, I can get
along all right without it.
With love to all, I remain your son,
Ira Kent.
