What is the future for Women in Politics in Nevada?

Barbara Vucanovich first ran for office at the age of 61 and promoted herself as ‘A tough Grandmother’. She was the first women elected to federal office for Nevada. She served 14 years in Congress, ushered in by the likes of Senator Paul Laxalt and under the guise of President Ronald Reagan. During her time in office fought for women’s rights, women and children’s issues and for awareness of Breast Cancer.
Sue Wagner was the first woman ever elected to the post of Lieutenant Governor in Nevada. That was after serving in both the State Assembly and the State Senate.
She was a tireless public servant campaigning with her children after her husband was killed in a plane crash, and even after she herself fell victim to a plane crash campaigning for Lt. Gov. She served her term in spite of life altering injuries. Shenow serves on the State Gaming Control Board.
Patty Cafferata served in the Nevada State Assembly and the Senate and she made a run for the U.S. Senate when her mother retired from Congress. She also served as District Attorney in Lander, Lincoln and Esmeralda Counties. She currently runs a private law practice in Reno.
