Deepak Chopra is well-known to PBS viewers because of his many books and television specials promoting mind-body health, but he began in conventional western medicine. Chopra had a successful endocrinology practice in Boston in the 1980s and was Chief of Staff at Boston Regional Medical Center, but began to consider alternative methods of medicine which endorsed a balance of mind, body and spirit. Combining ancient cultures with modern medicinal theory, his groundbreaking work created a new avenue for his practice, and established him as the leader of a new health movement.
The author of over 35 books and 100 audio, video and CD-ROM programs, Chopra may be best known to television viewers through his PBS specials, including The Soul of Healing: Body, Mind, and Soul; Body, Mind and Soul: The Mystery and The Magic; and The Way of the Wizard, Alchemy and The Crystal Cave.
Chopra’s teaching credentials include time at Tufts University and Boston University. His list of honorariums is impressive. He appeared at the inauguration of the State of the World Forum, participates annually as a lecturer at the Update in Internal Medicine event sponsored by Harvard Medical School, Department of Continuing Education and the Department of Medicine. Dr. Chopra is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists. Chopra is a founding director of the Alliance for the New Humanity. The Alliance for the New Humanity is committed to creating a critical mass of consciousness in the world for social justice, economical freedom, ecological balance and conflict resolution.
