Architects Will Bruder, Elise Fett, Brad Van Woert and Bill Snyder
share their views on the unique artform of architecture on the next
episode of ArtBeat with Betsy Dickinson airing on Channel
5. Interviews with the architects reveal their thoughts on light,
texture, technology and the use of materials in the buildings they
design — and how all of these things come together to comprise
a great work of art.
“When
you create a structure that balances ideas of poetry and art as
well as function…that’s really good architecture. It’s
architecture for the ages,” says Will Bruder who speaks about
his design for the Nevada Museum of Art and how architecture fits
into our cultural landscape. Elise Fett takes us on a tour of one
of her homes near Lake Tahoe and discusses how the creative use
of materials adds to the enjoyment of the spaces in which we live.
“I think
it’s a very popular artform right now,” commented Brad
Van Woert. “I think its popularity has come from people’s
need to understand the environment… and the key way to do
that is through good, well thought out architecture.” Mr.
Van Woert designed the renovation to the Carmelite Monastery in
Reno, which is featured in the program. Bill Snyder, whose design
studio focuses heavily on 3-D animation during the design phase,
addresses the notion of architectural form following function.
