In
"Clay and Chrome," ArtBeat with Betsy Dickinson explores
two decidedly different art forms — the earth-centered art of
pottery and the mechanized art of motorcycles.
Northern Nevada
is home to many potters, including Paul Herman and Joe Winter. The two
potters have been exploring the chemistry of clays, glazes and kiln-fire
to create unique pottery.
Then
Betsy challenges traditional notions of what constitutes art with a
fascinating look at motorcycles. She takes viewers to the Las Vegas-based
Guggenheim Museum to meet Charles Falco, co-curator of the Art of
Motorcycles exhibit.
From the swooping
Art Deco curves to the lean and clean aesthetic of the Bauhaus movement,
motorcycles have combined form with function to create a visceral, soul-throbbing
mechanized art.
