Join
Mrs. Guinn and ArtBeat host Betsy Dickinson for a tour of the
Governor's Mansion and see the interesting art and antique pieces that
are housed in the mansion. Nevada's Mansion has a vast history behind
it, with plenty of interesting anecdotal stories about life in the mansion.
Mrs. Guinn talks about her favorite pieces, including the Mackay Silver
on loan from the Keck Museum, the haunted grandfather clock, portraits
of Abraham Lincoln and a Duncan Phyfe dining set. Some of the pieces
of antique furniture have been with the mansion for many years, while
others, more historical pieces, were only recently brought to the mansion
by Mrs. Guinn, who has a great love for Nevada history.
Nevada's
mansion has been the home of 17 governors and their families and is
only one of very few Governor's Mansions in the western United States.
Erected in 1909, Nevada's Mansion has undergone two major renovations
in 1967 and 1997. These renovations are described in the program along
with archival photographs of the mansion and its interior.
Don't miss "Nevada's
Mansion," featuring a tour through the home with First Lady Dema
Guinn as well as the history behind this treasured showpiece.
ArtBeat with Betsy
Dickinson is produced by Channel 5 Public Broadcasting. Principal
funding for "Nevada's Mansion" was provided by Madeleine
Chiapperro with additional funding from the State Historic Preservation
Office, National Park Service and the Department of the Interior.
