Description:
A Carmelite nun living in a monastery near Los Angeles has gained status and attention as a spiritual master in part because of the intense visions she experiences. When it's revealed the visions may stem from a dangerous physical problem, Sister John of the Cross has to consider that curing the illness may end her visions. Faith, science and religious life meet in Mark Salzman's novel.
