Adolph Sutro pursued public, private and government funding for his great tunnel. He was able to finance construction going for 19 years and in the process made himself a very wealthy man.
Sutro After the Tunnel
The Tunnel was just the beginning for this entrepreneur. Sutro ultimately returned to California where he created gardens, baths, an aquarium and the Cliff House. He even found himself mayor of San Francisco.
