By February 17, 2009, the nation will complete a TV technology transition. Current broadcast television will change completely to a new format called digital television (DTV).
How does the DTV transition affect me?
If you receive TV signals through an antenna (for example, using “rabbit ears”) and you currently do not subscribe to cable or satellite, the TVs in your home will be affected. You will need to take action to continue receiving TV service.
You have four options:
-
Renew your KNPB Membership at $130 or more, or give an additional gift to KNPB of $130 or more, and receive a converter box for your support; (Make your membership online.)
-
Purchase a converter box for each television in your home that receives TV signals through an antenna (federal government-issued coupons to offset about half the cost of the boxes are available; see below for more details);
-
Purchase a new television set with a built-in digital tuner; or
-
Subscribe to cable or satellite that carries the channels you want to watch.
Learn more by visiting at knpb.org/dtv OR pbs.org/digitaltv or calling KNPB at 775.784.4555.
What Is the Converter Box Coupon Program?
To help consumers who choose to purchase a converter box, the federal government has created a coupon program that will reduce the cost of a converter box. To learn more about the coupon program, visit online at www.ntia.doc.gov/dtvcoupon/ or call toll-free 1-888-DTV-2009. |
