Reno 2020 Progress Report: Teaching for Jobs
A LIVE OpenLine Townhall Broadcast
Thursday, May 3 at 8:00pm on KNPB Channel 5
KNPB, along with news partners Reno Public Radio: KUNR and the Reno Gazette-Journal, hold a live town hall meeting to discuss the current state of education in Washoe County, following up on the Reno Gazette-Journal's "Reno 2020" report card.
The Gazette-Journal’s Reno 2020 forum identified a key action step Nevada must take: Link education curriculum to the needs of the new-economy workforce. The KNPB documentary Looking Up From the Bottom also focused on training for today’s jobs. The RGJ revisited the issue earlier this year with a report card giving our region only a “C” grade in job training progress.
On Thursday, May 3 at 8:00pm, KNPB hosts a special OpenLine — Reno 2020: Teaching for Jobs.
In the town hall broadcast, KNPB will look at progress made by agencies such as TMCC and Dream It Do It as well as Washoe County public schools and the University of Nevada, Reno. We’ll identify needs that remain to be filled and attempt to achieve consensus on the next steps to be taken.
