Maya and Miguel
Ready To Learn with Maya and Miguel

Airs on Channel 5 Weekdays at 5:00pmProgram Summary:

Lively and colorful, Maya and Miguel chronicles the adventures, and sometimes misadventures, of 10-year-old siblings Maya and Miguel Santos, and features their family, relatives and a richly diverse neighborhood of friends. This never-a-dull-moment situation comedy revolves around Maya’s well-intended meddling in her family and friends’ lives, ultimately leading her to create new quandaries to fix. While every episode will take humorous twists and turns, the underlying message is the importance of doing good for the family and community, and the philosophy that shared happiness is greater than personal gain. Maya and Miguel also intertwines both English and Spanish throughout the program to help foster mutli-language development. You can find Maya and Miguel on KNPB weekdays at 5pm.

Meet the Characters:

  • Maya is bright, fluent in both English and Spanish, a romantic at heart. Most of all, she’s adventurous and has a knack for somehow involving her family and friends in her plans. When you hear Maya say, “Eso es” watch out because something big is about to happen.

  • Miguel, older by three minutes, is much the opposite of Maya. He is practical, careful, and acts like a protective big brother, especially when Maya’s good intentions turn into big messes. Just like Maya, Miguel is also bilingual and a positive role model.

  • Abuela Elena is Maya and Miguel’s grandmother. She plays an important role in her grandchildren’s lives by making sure that her “angelitos” know and learn more about their rich cultural heritage.

Available Workshops:

  • Career Day:
Goals of this workshop include teaching children the wide variety of jobs that exist. We hear a lot about community helper careers (doctors, police, teachers, etc), but there are other people have and love such as salesman, truck drivers, etc. This workshop will help children know and understand a wide variety of occupations and will help them to see how every job is very important. Participants will also learn how to use the “Learning Triangle.”

  • Civic Participation:
Goals of this workshop include learning about community helpers, volunteering and helping out within the community. This workshop will help children realize the important role community helpers have in making one’s community a better place to live. Participants will also learn how to use the “Learning Triangle.”
