PBS KIDS Ready To Lean Workshops
As part our Ready To Learn service, we offer free training sessions and workshops for parents, grandparents, caregivers, and educators.

These workshops are designed to teach participants how to use the television as an educational tool by using books and related activities, and how to become familiar with PBS educational materials. Each workshop is tied to a PBS children’s program, if not more. Workshops address a wide-array of topics from the everyday classroom curriculum to the development of social skills.

At all of our workshops we provide information about ways to link the goals of all of our children’s series to books and related activities. We also provide an opportunity for the audience to practice strategies, techniques, and practice activities that are educational and fun. Participants will leave a workshop with extensive handouts, print materials, and a new book.

Available Workshops include:

Arthur

Berenstain Bears
Between the Lions

"Examining the Clues"
:
Goals of this workshop include teaching children how to become young investigators. Children will learn how to decipher a number of practical clues to mysteries. In the process, participants will discover how listening, examining evidence and clues, and thought-process can lead to fun results. Participants will also learn how to use the “Learning Triangle.”

Practicing the VIEW, READ, DO
Our Ready To Learn workshops are based on the VIEW, READ, DO philosophy.

View - Read - Do
VIEW:
Educational programs, such as those seen on KNPB, can and do help children to develop a sense of curiosity and lifelong love of learning. Always remember to talk with your child about the programming you are viewing. Have them make predictions about what might occur next.
READ:
Making the connection between what you view and what you read. Keep in mind talking with your child about the book and character development, will help encourage their own creativity. Think about creating a new ending to the story with your child.
DO:
Connecting the program with the story and extending into an activity. There are a number of educational and fun activities you can accomplish that relate to what was viewed and read. Creating art projects, playing outdoors, developing plays, using the internet, and talking are just a few of the suggested activities.
