All students who participate recieve recognition. And, the top three stories in each grade are treated to a celebration party, have their stories displayed at the Reno International Airport, and record their stories at the KNPB studio. These recordings will be placed on the KNPB website and will appear on air.

Stories are judged on:

  • Story has an idea (often a lesson learned)
  • Story has structure (a beginning, middle, and end)
  • Story has a strong voice (word choice)
  • Story has illustrations that help tell the tale

KNPB will be happy to introduce this contest in any classroom or with any community organization. Thess presentations include a lesson which helps students find a topic and begin writing and illutrating their story. The four key elements listed above are covered. Each student recieves a booklet to write and illustrate their stories. The National Young Writers and Illustrators site has activities and examples.
