VOLUNTEER: Support KNPB with Your Time and Skills

KNPB’s volunteers perform invaluable service to station activities in all departments. Their help extends across a wide range of activities, from working as studio production crew to helping with professional development activities for teachers, to help coordinating administrative and office duties, and serving as pledge and auction talent.

Become a KNPB volunteer by taking on one or more of the following positions:

The KNPB Volunteer Ambassador will have participated in past events and is familiar with the preparation and work required to successfully carry them out. The ambassador will manage volunteers during events, overlook any food provided for volunteers and ensure the success and comfort of all volunteers.

Special Event Volunteers may assist with room set-up, decorations, serving and greeting at special events held throughout the year which includes Aged to Perfection and Silver Circle events.

Outreach/Education Volunteers will assist in screenings, RTL workshops and other events that require help with promoting and carrying out educational events. This position may include office tasks such as mailings and editing as well as set up and take down of activities held after office hours.

PRODUCTION Volunteer Positions:

The Assistant Director is the official production time- keeper for breaks. They are responsible for getting breaks started on time, timing segments, and counting the crew out of breaks by communicating through head set.

The Video Operator follows along with talent and script diligently by recalling appropriate video clips and images from computer during on-air pledge breaks when requested by the Assistant Director. This person should be comfortable working with computers.

The Audio Mixer monitors the quality of sound from production control to master control under the supervision of the director. They will monitor the sound levels from microphones, video tapes and mixes through the audio board. This position will require light training.

The Floor Director is the communication link between director, assistant director and talent via headset while in the studio. He/She will cue talent when to speak, go to tape and toss the dialog between speakers on air.

The Camera Operator provides the director with the desired shots in a timely manner by listening to cues given through headset by the director.

PLEDGE and AUCTION Volunteer Positions:

The Phone Bank Greeter will arrive 10 minutes before the phone bank group. This person will greet and instruct volunteers to sign-in. They will also train volunteers on the phone system and premium IDs. This position requires previous experience and extensive knowledge of the phone systems used during KNPB pledge and auction events.

Phone Bank Groups comprised of volunteers within an organization answer phone calls and perform simple data entry on air during pledge events. The phone bank groups will be on-air and should represent KNPB on air as well as over the phone. Training is provided.

The Pledge and Auction Auditor sort and prepare membership statements.

OFFICE Volunteer Positions:

The Processor completes statement preparation for the KNPB premium and mailing department.

Office and Clerical Work available during office hours, (9-5) includes clerical work, data entry, mailings, customer services and pledge drives.
